Favourite Sites

Many of our guests especially love visiting the Central Market in Maputo. It is a thriving enterprise where locals and tourists alike find treasures and necessities under one roof. There is something undeniably invigorating about shopping in a market environment.

This is also true of the fish market.  Here, you can buy the bounty of the sea, freshly harvested by local fishermen. So don’t forget to bring your cooler box!

Maputo is a veritable treasure trove for history buffs and while there is too much to see and learn in just a day, a feast of Portuguese colonial Neoclassical and Manueline styles awaits your appreciation.

Highlights of these eclectic buildings include the old Fort with its illustrious history. Another architectural wonder is the Casa de Ferro, or the Iron House. The magnificent Cathedral of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception is another favourite among tourists.

Maputo’s history and architecture which was heavily influenced by Arab, Swahili and Portuguese influences is also recorded in the Musea De Historia where beautiful displays give visitors a deeper insight into Maputo’s colourful past.

Other equally noteworthy stops are the Samora Michel statue which stands in  Independence Square and the Tunduru Botanical Gardens.

Maputo is a magical city, with an energy that is nothing short of intoxicating. Her sights, smells and flavours will enthral you as you delve into her history, immerse yourself in the luxury of the Indian Ocean that washes her shores, and indulge in her delicious local fare.
